Durbin, Duckworth, Budzinski Announce $21 Million For Multimodal Transportation Improvements In Edwardsville

SPRINGFIELD - U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), and U.S. Representative Nikki Budzinski (D-IL-13) today announced that Edwardsville, Illinois will receive $21,241,730 in U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) grant funding for the Goshen Road and Liberty Trail Multimodal Transportation Improvements.

"I'm pleased to see more federal funding coming home to Illinois to improve our state's infrastructure," said Durbin. "With this RAISE grant, Edwardsville will see major improvements along Goshen Road and Liberty Trail, including new roundabouts, more electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and new shared-use paths."

"I'm proud to see this federal funding benefitting Illinoisans by repairing and enhancing our local infrastructure in Edwardsville," Duckworth said. "This investment will go a long way in modernizing bus stops, updating streetlights to solar lighting, adding more EV stations and bicycle parking facilities while fixing flood damaged infrastructure throughout Edwardsville. I will continue work alongside Senator Durbin and Congresswoman Budzinski to ensure that our communities are receiving the much-needed federal resources they deserve."

Goshen Road and Liberty Trail Multimodal Transportation Improvements aim to reconstruct approximately 1.75-miles of Goshen Road and Old Troy Road with solar lightening and green medians, convert approximately three intersections to roundabouts, construct approximately 2.9-miles of shared-use path along Old Troy Road and Goshen Road, update a bus stop, add approximately 10 EV stations and three bicycle parking facilities, and rehabilitate approximately 0.6-miles Goshen Road due to stream-related flooding.
