REEL LIFE Returns: Fresh Batch of 76 Filmmakers Embark on Intensive Film Camp

On August 2-4, Netflix hosted the second run of REEL LIFE in Thailand, bringing together 76 aspiring filmmakers to learn the ins and outs of the film industry. Guided by Netflix staff and professional mentors, participants experienced three days of hands-on sessions and masterclasses. Selected participants will also be offered on-the-job training opportunities with Netflix's production partners.

Attendees engaged in three breakout sessions, exploring the workflow and technical nuances essential for a post-production assistant, delving into the financial aspects of production through accounting, and gaining a comprehensive understanding of script formats, scheduling fundamentals, and office PA duties.

The final day featured group work presentations showcasing what the participants had learned, followed by engaging discussions on freelance life and career paths. The event culminated in a job fair, also offering attendees the chance to network with Netflix partners.

"Seeing the growth and enthusiasm of our participants from last year to this expanded three-day program is incredibly rewarding," says Yongyoot Thongkongtoon, Director of Content for Netflix Thailand. "Their dedication reassures me that the future of Thai cinema is in good hands. Programs like these are essential for nurturing emerging filmmakers and building a strong foundation for the Thai film industry."

Participants echoed this sentiment. "Meeting various professionals and exchanging knowledge with colleagues was incredibly enriching," said Chalermpong Udomsilp. "Initially, I was afraid the speakers would be strict, but they were friendly and shared real work experiences that made the classes enjoyable."

Atthawut Intagoon added, "This project exceeded my expectations. It helped me discover hidden traits and learn from industry professionals. Even though I already work in this field, I uncovered new insights and skills."

The REEL Life program was highly successful in its first season. For the second season, Netflix extended the workshop to 3 days and 2 nights, and also expanded the opportunity for interested participants to join, regardless of age or educational background.

Established in 2021, the Netflix Fund for Creative Equity continues to support initiatives like the Reel Life Camp. The fund aims to create more pathways for talent from underrepresented communities worldwide. In the Asia Pacific, the Reel Life Camp will soon run in Indonesia.
