Cole Avenue Project May Cause Traffic Delays

Crews hired by the City of Wheaton plan to begin work Monday, Sept. 30 on Cole Avenue just west of Main Street to replace a retaining wall, install a pedestrian handrail and realign the sidewalk. This work is necessary to repair sidewalk damage caused by erosion near the creek, requiring the closure of this sidewalk until it can be repaired. Work is expected to be completed by approximately Oct. 25.

The City is working with the contractor to minimize the impact on Wheaton North High School traffic, especially during arrival and dismissal times. However drivers may want to use an alternate route to avoid delays. Any lane closures associated with this project will be brief, and flaggers will be present to assist with traffic. Please use caution when driving in this area. We appreciate your patience as crews work to make these important repairs.
