Pitt State plans Family Day activities for students, children, families

Activities especially for kids and kids at heart are planned for the annual Family Fun Day for Kids at Pittsburg State University on Sept. 14.

Registration for Family Fun Day for children is open now and will continue until 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 13.

The event is hosted by Pitt State Alumni & Constituent Relations and is part of the university-wide Family Day activities aimed at college students and their families.

All of the fun will lead to cheering on the Gorillas as they play Emporia State at Carnie Smith Stadium.

Check-in for Family Fun Day begins at 1:15 p.m. at the Overman Student Center, with activities from 2 to 4 p.m.

Attendees will rotate among the following stations:

  • Nature Reach - interact and learn with live animals
  • HHPR - get up and move with Health, Human Performance, and Recreation
  • Pitsco - explore science and technology through hands-on experiences
  • Ultimate Art - create a unique masterpiece

The cost is $12 per child, which includes the activities, a Pitt State goodie bag, and a meal voucher from select food vendors in Gorilla Village.

Activities are designed for children 3-12 years of age. Children aged 2 and under are welcome to attend at no additional fee. However, if you would like a child that age to receive a meal voucher and gift, the cost is $12. Adult supervision is required! Parents/Guardians may attend at no cost.

Family Day

A tradition since 1993, Family Day is a chance for families of university students to experience campus life, meet their classmates, see their dorm rooms, and take part in activities. This year's Family Day events also will include:

Donuts & Discounts at the Bookstore
The main level of the Overman Student Center
Enjoy free donuts sponsored by Barnes & Noble! The store will offer a Family Day discount of 10 percent off purchases of Pitt State apparel and gift items in person, and online with code HELLO24. Some exclusions may apply.

11 a.m.
First-Generation Student Pinning
Governors Room, upper level of the Overman Student Center
During this event, first-generation students will be recognized with a Pitt State pin and be offered the opportunity to honor up to two people who helped support their journey. Sponsored by Campus Activities.

To participate in this event, the Pitt State studentbeing recognized must register by noon on Sept. 10 through Gorilla Engage.

11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Family & Friends Brunch
Crossroads, main level of the Overman Student Center
Current students and their families may join representatives from the Campus Activities office for a free brunch, photo ops, and fun make and takes. RSVP through Gorilla Engage by Sept. 10.

4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
GorillaFest in Gorilla Village
GorillaFest is the official PSU tailgate before all home football games, featuring live music from The Jetz, food vendors, inflatables, balloon animals, face painting, Gorilla splitface tattoos, and more!

5:45 p.m.
Gates Open & Gorilla Walk
Gorilla Village
Fans begin lining the pathway between the Plaster Center and Carnie Smith Stadium to cheer on Gorilla football players and coaches as they enter "The Jungle." Players and coaches reach up to touch the hand of the bronze Champion Gorilla for luck. Directly after the Gorilla Walk, the Pride of the Plains Marching Band, the Pitt Cheer Squad, and the Crimson and Gold Dancers perform for all to enjoy.

Pitt State will take on Emporia State. The Honorary Family will be recognized at halftime. Purchase football tickets through the PSU Ticket Office; student tickets are free for seating in the student section.
