Applications Open for Arkansas Delta Women’s Leadership Academy

JONESBORO - The Arkansas Delta Women's Leadership Academy (ADWLA) has had a successful first year of the program, with 25 participants of the inaugural class.

"The first year laid the foundation, but it's just the start of our journey," said Andrea Allen, executive director of the Delta Center for Economic Development.
"As we step into the second year, we will build upon that foundation and continue evolving to ensure we are empowering women to lead, innovate and inspire others to follow."

Now applicants are being sought for the second class of participants.
"Our first cohort is phenomenal. They are leading important change in their communities," said Dr. Cherisse Jones-Branch, dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Communication.
The program, hosted by Arkansas State University, was developed through funds targeted at helping women succeed in the workplace and become leaders in their fields. Women, 21 or older who are from one of 42 Delta counties, are encouraged to apply.
Entry into the program is competitive, but the information and empowerment gained through the experience is a worthwhile endeavor.
"The Arkansas Delta Women's Leadership Program has been a tremendous success, and I'm more than honored to have been a part," said Alisha Williams, human resources director for the City of Blytheville.
Jeanette Youngblood, dean of career education at the University of Arkansas Community College in Batesville, said she has enjoyed the benefits of the sessions held every other month across the state.
"We have completed several self-assessments that have been informative to the way I work with others. This has helped me to establish my personal baseline and then reflect on how I might continue to grow," said Youngblood.
ADWLA organizers are looking forward to receiving applications. The past year has been a successful endeavor for the initiative.
"As one of the organizers, I could not be more proud of what we have accomplished and the overwhelming success we saw this year. The caliber of women who participated in this inaugural year has helped us to realize what is important to women in leadership and how we can enhance the experience," said Cari White, ADWLA program coordinator.

"Our inaugural class was filled with remarkable women who are ready to lead with purpose, passion, and perseverance. I look forward to hearing about their impact across the Arkansas Delta and continuing to work with them to strengthen our program even more going forward," Allen added.
Sessions for the 2025 ADWLA class will be held in Jonesboro, El Dorado, Batesville, Searcy and Blytheville, with graduation taking place in Little Rock at the close of the program.
The deadline to apply is Friday, Oct. 11. Applicants must submit a resume and two letters of recommendation. The application is available at AState.edu/DeltaWomen.
