Get Prepared for the Unexpected

The Comox Valley Emergency Management Service is reminding residents and visitors in the Comox Valley area to get prepared for the unexpected.

"Earthquakes and tsunamis are naturally occurring hazards we all need to prepare for, and recent seismic activities on and around Vancouver Island are a good reminder to update your emergency kits and supplies". explains Howie Siemens, Manager of Emergency Programs. "Fortunately, seismologists with Natural Resources Canada report that recent activity along the particular fault lines are unlikely to produce larger earthquakes or tsunami events."

"Natural Resources Canada is continuing to monitor earthquake activity in and around Vancouver Island," says Alison Bird, seismologist for Natural Resources Canada. "These offshore swarms are quite normal and happen every year or so and should not be of concern to Comox Valley residents. They are however, a reminder that this is 'earthquake country' and people should take measures to prepare."
