The City of South Fulton Celebrates Opening of Frederick Administration Building

The City of South Fulton marks its first capital purchase with a ribbon cutting ceremony and celebration. Building houses non-public/back-end administration departments and services.

The City of South Fulton announces the opening of the Frederick Administration Building; the city's first capital purchase, which is now home to all back-end operations, housing the City Manager's Office, Human Resources, IT, Finance, Community Relations, and Public Affairs.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Friday, June 28, and gave both city leadership and the public an opportunity to come together and celebrate this historic occasion. As a non-public facing building, the Frederick Administration Building is open to the public by appointment only. However, tours were offered during the celebration to allow the public an opportunity to view this new workspace acquired through taxpayer dollars.

The City Manager, Sharon Subadan, cited this purchase as the first of many exciting acquisitions for the city, noting that groundbreaking has already begun on a new police headquarters and that a new Fire Department Headquarters and Training Facility will soon follow. "These facilities will allow city employees to more efficiently and effectively serve our residents, helping us to move ever closer to our continued goal of making the City of South Fulton a great place to live, work, grow, and do business."

The 40,000-square-foot, two-story building represents a great example of adaptive reuse. The building was acquired in January 2024 from Ferguson Industries. Previous ownership of the building had already completed many of the necessary renovations, allowing the city to move into the space sooner than expected when mold concerns arose at City Hall. The $5 million-plus total expenditure equates to a development cost of $126.25 per square foot of conditioned space. In addition to housing its new permanent departments, the building is also able to temporarily house the city's public-facing administrative services until the renovations at City Hall are complete.

The Frederick Administration Building accommodates 100 new employee workstations and a state-of-the-art server room. Comprehensive security measures protect the city's data within, including both interior and exterior cameras and an on-site security team.

The new building has also given the city the opportunity to showcase and support artists from the metro-Atlanta area, with the "Arts in Public Spaces" initiative. This new initiative by the City of South Fulton's Department of Cultural Affairs allows art on loan from artists to be a part of a six-month rotation - which are available for purchase. Currently on display are pieces by photographer Stephanie Brown, abstract paintings by Michelle Thomas, and figurative paintings by Lloyd Harold.

The best is yet to come for the City of South Fulton. We invite the public to follow along for updates as we celebrate our growth and innovation!
