CIETAC Delegation Visited Chilean Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Tourism and Held Discussions

On the evening of October 11, 2024, Wang Chengjie, Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC), led a delegation to visit Chilean Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Tourism (CHICIT) in Santiago, capital of Chile. Juan Esteban Musallam, Chairman of CHICIT, and the main directors of CHICIT warmly received the delegation and organized an exchange meeting. Ma Keqiang, Commercial Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Chile, and Zhou Kai, Secretary-General of the Association of Chinese-invested Enterprises in Chile and Chief Representative of the Representative Office of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade in Chile participated in the exchange meeting.

CHICIT was founded by entrepreneurs from Chile and China on July 23, 1997 in Santiago. The board of directors of CHICIT is composed of senior executives and general managers of the 16 largest import and export enterprises in Chile. CHICIT has been committed to facilitating the cultural and trade exchanges and promoting investment between the two countries. During the first China-Latin America International Arbitration Forum held in Beijing in 2023, CHICIT and CIETAC signed a cooperation agreement. The CIETAC delegation's visit to CHICIT in Santiago aimed to enhance the mutual understanding and further strengthen the exchanges and cooperation between the two sides.

During the discussion, the Chairman of CHICIT first expressed his warm welcome to the CIETAC delegation. He mentioned that as Chile's largest trading partner, China is the country with the largest investment stock in Chile, and Chile is also China's third largest trading partner in Latin America. With the increasingly close relationship in trade and investment exchanges, frictions and conflicts between the countries and commercial entities are also on the rise. CHICIT hopes to establish a long-term and close cooperative partnership with CIETAC, providing a concrete channel for resolving the economic and trade disputes between the two countries.

Secretary-General Wang Chengjie expressed his gratitude to the Chairman and directors of CHICIT for their warm reception. He said it is gratifying to see that CHICIT has attached great importance to dispute resolution and arbitration system. As the first international commercial arbitration institution established in China, CIETAC is willing to build high-quality international commercial dispute resolution platforms and also willing to strengthen cooperation with CHICIT on dispute resolution in the future, so as to jointly promote the sound development of trade and economy between the two countries.
