Rosen-Backed Bipartisan Bill to Investigate Illicit Drug Financing Passes Senate, Heads to President’s Desk

WASHINGTON, DC - Last night, the U.S. Senate passed Senator Catherine Cortez Masto's (D-NV) bipartisan Preventing the Financing of Illegal Synthetic Drugs Act, which Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) co-sponsored. The bipartisan bill would direct the U.S. Government Accountability Office to investigate how transnational criminal organizations finance synthetic drug trafficking and help the federal government target them more effectively. The bill now heads to the President's desk to be signed into law.

"There is a deadly fentanyl crisis that is impacting communities in Nevada and across our nation, and I've been working across the aisle to address it and keep our communities safe," said Senator Rosen. "That's why I'm proud to see that this bipartisan legislation to help better crack down on drug trafficking by cartels has passed the U.S. Senate and heads to the President's desk. I'll keep working to advance common-sense solutions to stop the flow of fentanyl into our nation and end the fentanyl crisis."

Senator Rosen has consistently worked across the aisle to secure the border and stop the flow of fentanyl. In April, the bipartisan FEND Off Fentanyl Act she backed was signed into law, requiring the President to sanction drug rings involved in international drug trafficking. Senator Rosen also voted to advance two bipartisan bills to improve U.S. Customs and Border Protection resources to better detect illicit drugs like fentanyl and other contraband smuggled across the U.S. southern border. Earlier this year, her bipartisan END FENTANYL Act was signed into law, which will help crack down on drug smuggling.
