Former January 6 Committee Chairman Thompson Releases Statement on Release of Special Counsel’s Brief

Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), former Chairman of the Bipartisan Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol, released the below statement on the redacted release of the Special Counsel's immunity brief for the case United States v. Trump:
"The Special Counsel's latest brief makes it clear that not only is Donald Trump not immune from prosecution for his actions surrounding the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol, but his actions were even more contemptible and depraved than previously known. It is the clearest picture yet of the case against Trump. This is critical information for the American people to know, and I am thankful it was publicly released. Those who undermine the rule of law and clearly have no qualms about trying to do so again must be held accountable. The very fabric of our democracy is at stake."
