City of Frederick Opens Community Compost Drop-off Site

To make composting more accessible to members of the community, the City of Frederick is pleased to announce a new Community Compost Drop-off Site.

This will provide residents living in apartments within the City of Frederick the ability to drop off food scraps and other organic materials at a compost bin at Willowtree Plaza. Signage will lead you to the green colored bin, beside the blue dumpsters. To learn more about what can be composted, please visit the Residential Compost Pilot website.

By encouraging additional residents to participate in the free Residential Compost Pilot Program, the City of Frederick hopes to divert even more organic material from landfills to prevent methane emissions that contribute to our environmental footprint.

More than 1,300 residents in Frederick have signed up for compost services in the city, diverting more than 671,820 pounds of organic materials from landfills since the program opened in June 2022.

The City of Frederick is encouraging all residents to take advantage of this free program to contribute to a more sustainable community and help the city minimize environmental impact.

To sign up for the city's composting program, please visit https://www.keycompost.com/residential.
