the City of Grand Junction Celebrates the Opening of Emerson Skate Park

The City of Grand Junction will host a ribbon cutting ceremony of Emerson Skate Park at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 16 at Emerson Park, 301 South 10th Street. A skate jam and community events will follow the ribbon cutting.

The skate jam aims to unite the community for a day of excitement, inviting skaters of all skill levels to show off their talents in a vibrant atmosphere. Helmets are encouraged by all riders. Live music, food trucks, vendors, and prize drawings to win skate gear and event memorabilia will occur throughout the afternoon.

  • Noon - 3 p.m.- Skate Jam

Following City Council approval of the project for the 2024 budget, the contract was approved to complete the design and building of the skate park. The design-build contract was award to Ford Construction, Team Pain as the skate park builder, Austin Civil Group for civil engineering, and Kaart Planning for landscape and architecture. Team Pain's design for the Emerson Skate Park incorporates modern features, including an extensive street course, an intermediate bowl, and an advanced bowl. These elements along with the entire Emerson Park renovation were developed through a community engagement process that included numerous focus groups, surveys and public meetings in 2023.

The reactivation of Emerson Park is outlined as a priority in the 2021 Parks, Recreation, and Open Space (PROS) Master Plan for the parks and recreation system.
