Mayor Harrell Statement on 2024 Election

Today, Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell released the following statement:

"Yesterday, millions of Americans exercised their right to vote, including hundreds of thousands of Seattle residents. I am grateful to live in a country that respects the democratic process and the vote of the people, whether it is the result we hoped for and anticipated or not.

"As your mayor, I remain committed to protecting our people - our residents, workers, and those who are most vulnerable - our planet, and our freedoms. No matter who sits in the Oval Office, I will continue to lead Seattle with our shared values of kindness, collaboration, and hope.

"At the core of our One Seattle mission is a belief that what we do in Seattle is special, and that the country often looks to us as a beacon for what can be achieved when we embrace those qualities and the spirit that defines this region. From the $15 minimum wage to our climate leadership, Seattle has always been a city where innovation is inherent, and progress is paramount.

"We are committed to ensuring Seattle remains a place of inclusion and belonging for LGBTQ+ people, immigrants and refugees, and those who have been historically marginalized. We will act with compassion and urgency to those most vulnerable in our city who need help. We will continue to follow science and lead with climate action for a more sustainable, healthy city. We will uphold our race and social justice principles to build equitable communities, standing up for what we know is right.

"During this period of transition and uncertainty, we must reject despair, apathy, and hate, and come together to drive progress towards the safe, welcoming, and thriving city that we all know is possible."
