City Downgrades Fire Restriction to Advisory - UPDATED ›

UPDATED RELEASE: JULY 26, 2024 @ 11:30 a.M.

The City of St. Albert has downgraded the Fire Restriction to a Fire Advisory due to improved conditions in the region with the recent precipitation and cooler temperatures.

Permitted fires are still allowed, but a restriction or ban may be issued if conditions worsen. We are asking that everyone do their part in reducing the risk:

  • Please be cautious when enjoying a private firepit.
  • All wood burning firepits must be permitted and used in compliance with the Fire Services Bylaw.
  • Wood burning firepits must always be used with a screen spark arrestor.
  • Firepits must be fully extinguished before leaving unattended.

St. Albert Fire Services is dedicated to saving lives and protecting properties throughout our community. Residents are asked to use extra caution with propane and natural gas outdoor appliances, and dispose of smoking materials (cannabis, cigarettes, cigars, matches or lighters) properly. A reminder that the discharge of unauthorized pyrotechnics and fireworks is prohibited at all times within the City of St. Albert.   

St. Albert Fire Services will continue to monitor the situation and a ban or restriction could be issued. Updates will be provided on stalbert.ca and albertafirebans.ca. To report a fire please call 911. 

UPDATED RELEASE: JULY 12, 2024 @ 8 A.M.

The City of St. Albert has issued a Fire Restriction that is effective immediately. The change from the current Fire Advisory to a Fire Restriction is due to the forecasted continuation of warm and dry conditions, with no substantial precipitation expected over the next 7 days.

All open burning is prohibited, including:

  • Wood burning firepits located on driveways
  • Firepits and barbecues in public parks
  • Burn barrel and incinerators in rural areas

The following is still allowed, but residents should use extra caution:

  • All wood burning firepits must be permitted and be used in compliance with the Fire Services Bylaw.
    • Wood burning firepits must be fully extinguished before being left unattended.
    • Wood burning firepits must always be used with a screen spark arrestor.
  • Propane and natural gas private firepits, barbeques and smokers on private property.

Residents are asked to use extra caution with propane and natural gas outdoor appliances, and dispose of smoking materials (cannabis, cigarettes, cigars, matches or lighters) properly. A reminder that the discharge of unauthorized pyrotechnics and fireworks is prohibited at all times within the City of St. Albert.
