Water Restrictions Mandated by the State

PLEASE NOTE WATER RESTRICTIONS ARE MANDATED BY THE STATE.

Public Notice of Mandatory Non-Essential Outdoor Water Use Restriction For Residential & Commercial Customers

In accordance with the City of Taunton's Water Management Act permit, the City has implemented a mandatory non-essential outdoor water use restriction from July 3, 2024, to September 30, 2024, between the hours of 9am and 5pm, seven days per week.

Non-essential water uses subject to restrictions include:

irrigation of lawns and landscaping via sprinklers or automatic irrigation systems (hand-held hose watering is permitted);

washing of vehicles, except in a commercial car wash or as necessary for operator safety;

filling swimming pools;

washing of exterior building surfaces, parking lots, driveways, or sidewalks, except as necessary to apply surface treatments such as paint, preservatives, stucco, pavement, or cement.

All essential water uses for health, safety, livestock, and core business functions are exempt from the restrictions, and non-essential water use is permitted before 9am and after 5pm.

The restriction is a conservation requirement from the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, based on local stream flows, and is not a response to an emergency situation. The restrictions apply to all withdrawals from the Taunton River watershed as part of regional conservation efforts.

Please call the Taunton Department of Public Works Water Division at 508-821-1045 for more information about the non-essential water use restrictions.

The City of Taunton thanks you for your cooperation.
