Mayor Bass Addresses South Broadway Encampment in South Central Los Angeles, Brings More Than 20 Angelenos Inside with Supportive Services

LOS ANGELES - Last week on Wednesday, the City of Los Angeles conducted an Inside Safeoperation in South Central Los Angeles in partnership with Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson. More than 20 Angelenos moved off the street and were brought inside from this operation. Click herefor photos and b-roll of the operation.

"This Inside Safe operation in South Central LA continues our momentum to urgently bring Angelenos inside with supportive services to improve their lives," said Mayor Karen Bass. "I look forward to continuing to work alongside Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson and my colleagues across the City of Los Angeles to address the homelessness crisis urgently."

"The most recent Inside Safe efforts show the Mayor's commitment and determination to bring Angelenos off the streets and into safe housing," said Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson. "We see the power of collaboration in every council district and with our partners at every level providing services and solutions as we continue this critical work."

In 2023, tent encampments came down in every council district, and thousands more Angelenos came inside than in 2022 thanks to action locking arms with the City Council, County and LAHSA. The Mayor has worked to improve services provided for unhoused Angelenos coming inside and has also been vocal about the need to make homelessness programs more cost effective as this urgent work continues.

Last week, the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) announced the resultsof the 2024 Homeless Point-In-Time Count, which showed a decline in homelessness in the City of Los Angeles for the first time in six years and historic reductions in street homelessness. The 2024 count results saw a 17% increase in the number of people moved off the streets. The City has also worked to prevent people from losing their homes and to lock arms across all levels of government to move people inside and save lives and restore neighborhoods.
