Brown Rudnick Proudly Supports the 2025 ILBF Essay Competition

International law firm Brown Rudnick is proud to sponsor, for the second time, the upcoming International Law Book Facility (ILBF) charity's 2025 law undergraduate essay competition, and ILBF's charitable mission to support the rule of law and access to justice through sharing legal knowledge.

The competition was first launched at an ILBF event on 25th November 2021 by Lord Burnett of Maldon, the former Lord Chief Justice where Professor Richard Susskind OBE, author, spoke about the impact of AI on the legal profession. Now in its fourth year, the competition is open to all law undergraduates studying at UK universities and provides a coveted opportunity to win a great prize, as well as giving students the chance to research and formulate their ideas about an important topic.

This year's competition will be announced by the Rt. Hon. the Baroness Carr of Walton-on-the-Hill, the Lady Chief Justice of England and Wales, and the winner will receive a full week's internship at Brown Rudnick.

Jane Colston, partner, Brown Rudnick and co-chair of Litigation and Dispute Resolution, commented: "We are delighted once again to sponsor the essay competition in the ILBF's 20th anniversary year, and are proud to have supported the work of the ILBF over the last decade. This essay competition was designed from the outset to seek to open up the legal profession to talent from all backgrounds. Gaining a work placement is invaluable but often hard to come by experience for a law undergraduate. It affords them the opportunity to decide finally that law is for them and to gain experience which will aid their studies, job applications and future careers. Supporting and encouraging future lawyers' careers, while contributing to the ILBF's important mission, is part of our commitment to address issues around social mobility and to drive positive change. We wish all entrants to the competition the best of luck and I look forward to reading the submissions!"

Sage Revell, partner and co-head of DEI at Brown Rudnick added: "At Brown Rudnick, we are committed to nurturing the next generation of legal minds by promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within the profession. This essay competition offers students across the UK a unique platform to showcase their talents and engage deeply with an important topic. We're thrilled to provide the winning student with an immersive experience through a week-long internship, allowing them to gain invaluable insights into our work and culture. We look forward to seeing the perspectives and creativity that this competition will inspire."

Paul Lowenstein KC, chairman of the ILBF trustee board, added: "Brown Rudnick is a fantastic supporter of our work, and we are thrilled and very grateful that they are the sponsor of the essay competition in our 20th anniversary year. The winner of the essay competition will have a fantastic experience at the firm."

More information and key dates for the 2025 essay competition will be published on the ILBF website.
