Three New Commissioners Appointed to the California Commission on Health and Safety and Workers' Compensation

COMMISSION ON HEALTH AND SAFETY AND WORKERS' COMPENSATION

OAKLAND - The California Commission on Health and Safety and Workers' Compensation (CHSWC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Jen Hamelin, Kristi Montoya, and Chris Pedroza to CHSWC. In addition, CHSWC is also pleased to announce the reappointment of Meagan Subers. The appointments were made by Governor Newsom along with other Council and Commission announcements.1

Jen Hamelin, of Colfax, has been the Chief Claims Officer, Worker's Compensation at Public Risk Innovation, Solutions, and Management (PRISM) since 2023 and has held several roles there since 2012, including Director of Workers' Compensation, Workers' Compensation Claims Manager, Supervising Senior Workers' Compensation Claims Specialist and Senior Workers' Compensation Claims Specialist. They have held several roles at York Insurance Services Group from 2001 to 2011, including Assistant Vice President of Workers' Compensation, Claims Manager, Claims Supervisor, Senior Claims Examiner, Claims Examiner and Claims Assistant.

Ms. Hamelin is a member of the board of directors of Project Go Inc. and The Perseverance Project. They are also a member of the California Coalition on Workers' Compensation and the Association of Governmental Risk Pools.

Kristi Montoya, of Oakland, has been the Director of Claim Operations at United Parcel Service (UPS) since 2023 and has held multiple roles there since 2003, including Director of Risk Management, Risk Management District Case Advisor, Finance Manager and Revenue Recovery Manager. They are a member of the California Coalition of Workers' Compensation and the Workers' Compensation Action Network. Ms. Montoya earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from California State University, East Bay.

Chris Pedroza, of Dublin, has been Executive Director at Carpenters 46 Northern California Counties Conference Board since 2021. They were a Marketing Field Representative at the Northern California Carpenters Regional Council from 2008 to 2021. Mr. Pedroza is a member of the Carpenters Local Union 152.

CHSWC Commissioners are appointed by the Governor and the Legislature. Labor Code 75 establishes that two of the employers and two of the labor members of the Commission shall be appointed by the Governor for a total of four members. The Senate Committee on Rules and the Speaker of the Assembly shall each appoint one employer and one labor representative for a total of four members. In the case of this announcement, the Governor made the appointments to fill recent vacancies, as well as to renew Ms. Subers' term.
