Seney National Wildlife Refuge Announces Temporary Closure of Wildlife Drives for Road Construction, August 19 and 20

Seney, MI - The Seney National Wildlife Refuge will temporarily close the Marshland Wildlife Drive and Fishing Loop for essential road construction on August 19 and 20, 2024. The work involves removing existing asphalt in preparation for the laying of new asphalt, scheduled for early October.

During this period, the iconic drives, popular among wildlife enthusiasts and visitors alike, will be inaccessible. While we are planning for a two-day closure, please be advised that the closure may be extended should unexpected issues arise during the construction process.

Additionally, the Refuge Entrance Road will be converted to gravel until the paving is completed in early October, and the drives will again be closed during the paving process. The dates for the paving closure are tentatively set for October 1 to 3, but we will make an announcement in late September as we gain more clarity on project timelines.

Alternate Recreation Opportunities

We encourage visitors to explore alternative activities during the road closures. Several hiking and biking trails are available throughout the refuge. Parking is provided at both the Robinson Street and Driggs River Road entrances, and the Visitor Center will remain open Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
