Based on updated weather forecasts, the current extreme weather activation will be extended to Monday, December 2 at 9 a.m.As weather conditions change, subsequent alerts may be sent to advise of changes to the activation timeline.
The City encourages vulnerable Edmontonians to go to shelters to protect themselves from winter conditions. Shelters are the safest option because they protect vulnerable Edmontonians from frostbite, loss of limbs and death. Find out more about the City's Winter Safety Response Plan at edmonton.ca/Homelessness.
This activation will continue to include:
Extreme weather bus routes
Expanded Overnight Shelter
Al Rashid Mosque will open up to 50 overnight spaces to help expand shelter capacity, with operating hours from 5 p.m. - 8 a.m.
City Facilities
Open City facilities and libraries will be open during regular operating hours to anyone needing respite from the extreme cold.
If you see someone sheltering outside, call 211 immediately and ask for the Crisis Diversion Team. This 24/7 service can help connect vulnerable individuals to transportation, shelter and the support they need. By making that call, you could be protecting someone from harm - and potentially saving a life.
