Throughout the months of October and November, two different residential real estate Open Houses became the target for a burglar, posing as a realtor. The Marin County Sheriff's Office Investigations Division was able to identify the subject as Joshua Lamont, who has a history of committing similar offenses up and down the state of California.
In October 2024, Lamont arrived at an open house in the Sleepy Hollow area of Marin County, using an AKA and claiming to be working with another realtor and was interested in the home. While taking a self-guided tour of the property, Lamont stole approximately $15,000 in miscellaneous jewelry from within the home. Approximately three weeks later, Lamont arrived at a separate open house, this time located in the Kent Woodlands area. Lamont used the same ruse to gain entry of the home. During the commission of this burglary, Lamont stole approximately $10,000 worth of jewelry and checks.
Through the investigation, Lamont was determined to be staying at a hotel in Walnut Creek, where he was arrested on November 20,2024 by MCSO Detectives based on the probable cause from each of the two Marin County Burglaries. During the search of Lamont's hotel room, evidence from the Kent Woodlands burglary were located along with various Pawn Shop receipts from throughout the Bay Area. Detectives are continuing to try and locate items stolen by Lamont.
Lamont was booked in the Marin County Jail for two counts of 459 PC Burglary as well as two outstanding warrants for similar crimes in San Diego and Santa Barbara Counties. Lamont's bail for the Marin crimes is currently set at $250,000, with additional bail amounts for his outstanding warrants. Lamont's total bail is currently set at $400,000.
