National Assembly Deputy Speaker Edin Djerlek Takes Part in 10th IPU Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians

National Assembly Deputy Speaker Edin Djerlek and MP Ivana Stamatovic, members of the standing delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia to the Inter-Parliamentary Union, participated in the 10th IPU Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians, held from 12 to 14 September 2024 in Yerevan.

On the sidelines, Deputy Speaker Djerlek met with Vice President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Hakob Arshakyan. The officials highlighted the historical ties and closeness between our peoples, as well as the traditionally good and friendly relations between Serbia and Armenia, which established diplomatic relations 30 years ago. They paid special attention to the current issues of bilateral cooperation, as well as the possibilities for its improvement on the political and economic level, especially with regard to the intensification of the parliamentary dialogue.

Deputy Speaker Djerlek also met with the delegations of the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and the Kingdom of Bahrain, and discussed the possibilities for the development of overall bilateral relations, as well as the possibilities for improving parliamentary cooperation with the Gulf states.

On the occasion, the Serbian delegation laid a wreath at the "Broken Wing" monument in the town of Arshaluys, near Yerevan, erected in memory of the seven Serbian pilots who lost their lives in a plane crash 36 years ago during the delivery of SFRY humanitarian aid after the devastating earthquake that hit Armenia in 1988. Deputy Speaker Djerlek expressed his gratitude to Armenian for honouring the memory of the Serbian airmen, making the humanitarian mission, although it ended tragically, a symbol of solidarity and friendship between the Serbian and Armenian people.
