New Emergency Manager Joins City’s Team

The city is pleased to introduce Aaron Spencer as its new Emergency Manager. Aaron brings over 23 years of distinguished military experience, including five combat deployments and more than 12 years of guiding individuals in career advancement. Throughout his career as a U.S. Army firefighter, he gained experience in emergency mitigation, management and organization. His extensive background includes leadership roles as a Senior Career Counselor and Lead Firefighter.

Aaron will coordinate the city's Emergency Management Unit following Police Captain Byron Williams' retirement earlier this summer.

Please join us in welcoming Aaron to his new role. His experience will be invaluable to ensuring the preparedness and safety of our community.

The city's Emergency Operations Center was partially activated last week while Hurricane Helene made landfall in Florida's Big Bend region. Although our area didn't see damaging winds, rain and storm surge as other parts of Florida, the city prepared by distributing 5,183 sandbags to residents and business owners, cleaning storm drains, readying emergency pumps and generators, lowering levels of city-owned retention ponds and establishing a Citizen Hotline.
