Dr. Jill Guttormson, dean of the College of Nursing, was named to BizTimes Milwaukee's list of Notable Health Care Leaders.
Under Guttormson's direction, the College of Nursing relocated to the newly renovated David A. Straz, Jr., Hall this summer. This 103,000-square-foot space includes classrooms, simulation labs and flexible technology, enabling both in-person and hybrid learning. The new home strengthens the college as it aims to prepare 5,000 new nurses over the next decade.
Guttormson's efforts in fundraising helped secure funds to offset the $42 million needed for the facility. She has also expanded both graduate and undergraduate enrollment, ensuring the college will break even on the building investment within seven years.
She also co-led the university's "Securing Our Future" initiative, helping Marquette face increasing economic and demographic pressures from a position of strength.
"Through her practice of servant leadership, Dr. Guttormson exemplifies a commitment to excellence in nursing education, positioning Marquette as a leader in addressing health care challenges and disparities," President Kimo Ah Yun said.
Notable Heath Care Leaders is part of BizTimes Milwaukee's Notable series, which recognizes leaders in the southeastern Wisconsin business community.
