New Kermadec mineral reservation

A new mineral reservation over the Kermadec Arc has been declared for 18 months replacing a reservation that expires on 4 July 2024.

The new reservation declaration means that permits for minerals will not be granted or extended in relation to this area (specified in the Schedule of Reserve Area below).

The new reservation takes effect from 5 July 2024 to 4 January 2026.
Declaring a reservation is considered necessary to better meet the purpose of the Crown Minerals Act 1991.

This notice is made under section 28A of the Crown Minerals Act 1991, whereby the Minister for Resources may declare that permits will not be granted or extended in respect of specified land during a specified period if he or she believes the declaration is necessary to better meet the purpose of the Act.
