American Battle Monuments Commission commemorates Veterans Day at 22 of its sites

The American Battle Monuments Commissionwill host Veterans Day ceremonies at 22 of its sites throughout the world Nov. 6-11, inviting its audience to reflect on the service and sacrifice of fallen U.S. service members.

ABMC chairman U.S. Army Gen. (Ret.) Michael X. Garrett, ABMC commissioner U.S. Navy Rear Admiral (Ret.) Michael E. Smith and ABMC secretary Charles K. Djou will attend public and private events, respectively, at Manila American Cemetery, Naval Monument at Gibraltarand Cambridge American Cemeteryto commemorate Veterans Day to commemorate Veterans Day and honor the U.S. armed forces who made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom.

For more than 100 years, ABMC, the guardian of America's overseas commemorative cemeteries and military memorials, has honored the memory and legacy of service members through commemorative ceremonies across its cemeteries, keeping the promise of ABMC's first chairman, Gen. John J. Pershing that, "Time will not dim the glory of their deeds."

More than 200,000 service men and women are buried or memorialized at ABMC sites.
