Renowned journalist, non-profit founder Kennecke to speak at MSU about fentanyl epidemic

MINOT, N.D. - Angela Kennecke, renowned broadcast journalist and founder of the non-profit Emily's Hope, will deliver an urgent and compelling message to Minot State University about the growing fentanyl poisoning epidemic.
MSU will host a presentation by Kennecke on the dangers of fentanyl and efforts to combat this deadly epidemic on Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. in Ann Nicole Nelson Hall.
With record-breaking overdose rates and fentanyl-related deaths, Kennecke's presentation will shine a light on the dangers posed by this deadly substance, now the leading cause of death for individuals aged 18 to 45. Her life-saving message underscores the risk of taking just one counterfeit or illicit pill.
Drawing on her extensive career as an award-winning anchor and investigative reporter for KELOLAND Media Group, Kennecke's mission took on new urgency after the heartbreaking loss of her daughter, Emily, to fentanyl poisoning at just 21 years old. Emily had no idea the substance she took contained fentanyl, and the tragedy left Kennecke determined to spare other families the same devastating loss. She founded Emily's Hope to raise awareness, eliminate the stigma surrounding substance use disorder, and advocate for better prevention, treatment, and research.
For five years, Kennecke has shared her daughter's story with tens of thousands of students and community groups nationwide, offering a personal perspective and a call to action. As the fentanyl crisis continues to escalate, her message is more critical than ever.
