Dear alumni and friends of Marquette's Klingler College of Arts and Sciences,

As we embark on a new academic year, I am excited to share some of the incredible work happening in the Klingler College of Arts and Sciences. Your continued support and engagement play a vital role in the success of our college as we drive innovation, enhance student experiences, and make a positive difference in the world. Our college motto, "The difference is in the and," reflects our holistic approach to education and community impact, as illustrated by the stories told in this issue.

Our faculty and students are addressing unmet mental health needs by leveraging the latest technologies to explore innovative solutions, particularly among vulnerable populations such as teens and the underinsured. This interdisciplinary effort spans multiple departments, highlighting how diverse expertise within our college can converge to tackle complex issues.

In the realm of artificial intelligence, we are facilitating critical conversations about the ethical implications of rapidly advancing technologies. Scholars like theologian Dr. Jeanne-Nicole Saint-Laurent, data scientist Dr. Nasim Yahyasoltani and data ethicist Dr. Michael Zimmer are examining the influence of AI on education and society. Their insights underscore the importance of a multidisciplinary approach in understanding and guiding the development and use of AI, ensuring it serves the greater good.

We are also deeply committed to social justice, as demonstrated by a community-based research project led by sociologist Dr. Louise Cainkar. This initiative aims to improve the refugee resettlement process for Afghan women in collaboration with the Milwaukee Muslim Women's Coalition. By addressing the unique needs of women, this project seeks to create a more inclusive and effective model for refugee resettlement in the U.S.

These stories are just a glimpse of the incredible work happening across the Klingler College of Arts and Sciences. They reflect our dedication to fostering a healthy campus, supporting thriving students and caring for the world, and I am proud of the contributions our faculty and students are making to advance Marquette's mission. I look forward to your continued partnership as we advance these important initiatives and many others in the year ahead.

Warm regards,

Dr. Heidi Bostic
