Public votes will help the American Heart Association entry win the Community Voice Award

DALLAS, Oct. 28, 2024 -"What Would They Say?" - the powerful spoken word poem produced by the American Heart Association, which is celebrating 100 years of lifesaving service as the world's leading voluntary organization focused on heart and brain health, has been named a finalist in the 4th Annual Anthem Awards.

"What Would They Say?" is eligible for Gold, Silver and Bronze Anthem Awards, with winners selected by a panel of judges. It is also in the running for the Anthem Community Voice Award, which will be decided by popular vote.

"This recognition as a finalist is a tremendous honor, and we are calling on everyone to support 'What Would They Say?' by casting their vote," said Keith Churchwell, M.D., FAHA, American Heart Association volunteer president, associate clinical professor of medicine at Yale School of Medicine and adjunct associate professor of medicine at the Vanderbilt School of Medicine. "This project reflects our commitment to amplifying voices that speak truth to power, and we are thrilled to see it resonate on a global platform."

"What Would They Say?," written and performed by American Heart Association volunteer and Los Angeles artist Ryon Everidge, delivers a hard-hitting message about the deadly risks of menthol tobacco products and the insidious, deceptive strategies employed by Big Tobacco. This powerful piece calls out the industry's manipulation and the human toll of its relentless pursuit of profit.

"This nomination isn't just a personal milestone-it's a step toward amplifying the voices of those affected by the devastating impact of menthol products in our communities. It's time for real action to protect the health of those who've been targeted and to hold Big Tobacco accountable."
