Former RAF leading aircraftman takes first ever flight at 90 years old with Jet2.com

A former RAF leading aircraftman fulfilled a lifelong ambition of taking his first ever flight at 90 years old, after recently flying from Leeds Bradford Airport to Bergerac in France with leading leisure airline, Jet2.com.

Malcolm Shedlow, from Leeds, made a memory to cherish forever when he flew abroad with his family for the first time with the UK's third largest airline to visit his son in Dordogne in France.

Receiving the famous VIP customer service Jet2.com are known for, Malcom was welcomed at the airport by the airline's friendly Customer Helpers who supported him throughout the journey, explaining the flying process to him and making it as easy as possible.

Malcolm said: "I was fast tracked through the airport and treated like a celebrity! Jet2.com's Red Team could have not been more helpful or friendly, and they made the whole flying experience seamless. Once onboard the aircraft, the Cabin Crew were very attentive and reassured me I was in very capable hands."

Upon landing in France, Malcolm's granddaughter informed Jet2.com Cabin Crew member, Tina Murphy, that it was his first ever time flying. To help make the occasion even more special, Tina proudly presented Malcolm with one of the airline'sFirst Flight Club certificates as a keepsake and arranged for him to visit the flight deck and have his picture taken.

Malcolm's daughter, Claire Baskind, said: "We're so delighted that my dad had such a positive experience on his first flight in 90 years! It was such a joy to see the pictures and to hear how much he enjoyed his experience. Meeting the pilot and being asked to sit in the cockpit was an absolute highlight that our family will treasure forever. Thank you to the Jet2.com staff for making it so special for him".

Although having never taken to the skies himself, Malcolm's first experience with aircraft dates back 70 years to his service in the RAF. Malcolm contributed towards the peacetime conscription following the Second World War by completing clerical duties during his National Service call-up. "My work helped to keep the pilots flying, yet I never went in a plane myself, but that has all changed now thanks to Jet2.com!", he explained.

Reflecting on his first experience of flying, Malcolm commented: "I really enjoyed the flight - it was an incredible experience. I look forward to flying with Jet2.com again next year as they have whetted my appetite for flying. I certainly won't be waiting another 90 years to take my second flight!"

He added: "If Jet2.com needs any more pilots, Captain Malcolm is available!"
