Prof. Emerita Gac-Artigas Awarded Translation Prize

Priscilla Gac-Artigas, Ph.D., professor emerita in the Department of World Languages and Cultures, delivered the lecture, "The Ghost of 'Traduttore, Traditore,' Debunking Common Myths About Poetry Translation," at the Second Congress of the Tomitana Academy and the Universalis Poetarum Academy held in Tomis-Constanza, Romania, Sept. 23-30. During the international conference, which featured academics and poets from different parts of the world, Gac-Artigas was awarded the Translation Prize of the Tomitana Academy for the quality of her poetry translations. The award was presented by Monsignor Teodosie Petrescu, Th.D., director of the Academia Tomitana, academic and archbishop of Tomis-Constanza.

Additionally, in the United States, two poetry collections Gac-Artigas translated along with Andrea G. Labinger, "Confieso que escribo / I Confess That I Write" and "hombre de américa / man of the américas" by Chilean poet Gustavo Gac-Artigas, received honorary mention for poetry in translation from the International Latino Book Award (ILBA) 2024. A subsequent book review was published in the "Latin American Literature Today" magazine (#31, Sept. 2024) commending Gac-Artigas and Labinger's work as translators.

Gac-Artigas is a Fulbright scholar, a full member of the North American Academy of the Spanish Language (ANLE), and a correspondent member of the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE).
