The Democratic Alliance (DA) welcomes today's Johannesburg High Court ruling, which has dismissed the MK Party's urgent bid to postpone next week's Judicial Service Commission (JSC) interviews. This follows last week's Western Cape High Court interdict, which barred impeached former judge president, John Hlophe, from participating in JSC processes.

This ruling is another critical win for South Africa's judiciary, reinforcing the principle that judicial integrity must be upheld at all times. By rejecting the MK Party's attempts to delay the JSC interviews, the court has ensured that the process of selecting new judges can proceed without interference from individuals who have been found guilty of gross misconduct.

The DA remains resolute in defending the independence of the judiciary. Allowing individuals like Dr. Hlophe, who has been impeached, to influence the selection of future judges would pose a grave threat to the public's trust in our legal system and the rule of law. Today's decision reaffirms that accountability and ethical conduct are non-negotiable pillars of our democracy.

We are pleased with the court's confirmation that the JSC is properly constituted to carry out its important role in safeguarding the integrity of our judiciary. The DA will continue its efforts to ensure that those appointed to the JSC are beyond reproach and committed to upholding the values enshrined in our Constitution.
