Your website marketing is indispensable - it essentially acts as a billboard to your potential customers. And as a digital marketing agency, you should set the bar for what a website should like.

In the process of writing this article, I scoured hundreds of digital marketing agency websites (the good, the bad, and the ugly) to help you find some of the best examples. I was surprised to find how similar most of the best ones are - in terms of structure and technical elements. From bold visuals to clever content strategies, these tips can help you bring attention to your brand or products and create a powerful web presence.

This should encourage you if you're looking to create your own. It's easy to master the basics and build a digital marketing website. In this article, I'll share more about what makes a great digital marketing website, why it matters, and 20 of my favorite agency websites.

Table of Contents

What Is Website Marketing?

Website marketing is the process of strategically marketing your business online and can include SEO, PPC, content marketing, email marketing, social media marketing, and more.

Websites are still considered the gold standard in the world of marketing and are used by nearly all businesses to help promote services and sell to potential customers. But it's more complicated than simply having your unique domain and an About page. A website marketing strategy is a tailored plan of action that helps increase qualified traffic to your website and help you convert that traffic into customers.

Keep reading to discover what elements turn an average digital marketing website into a great one.

What Makes a Great Digital Marketing Website?

Functional website + clear offer + unique brand/creativity = a great digital marketing website.

But of course it's more complicated than that. James Parsons, owner of content marketing agency Content Powered, shares what separates great digital marketing websites from the rest:

"The essence of a compelling digital marketing agency website lies not just in aesthetics but in its ability to effectively communicate the brand's ethos, expertise, and value proposition to potential clients."

Parsons says the key is in balancing creativity with functionality. You want a space that showcases your portfolio but also fosters engagement and trust among visitors:

"From sleek and minimalist designs to interactive user experiences, the best agency websites in 2024 prioritize seamless navigation and intuitive functionality, reflecting a commitment to innovation and client-centricity."

When it comes to the technical elements, here the common elements I noticed across all of the standout marketing websites:

Results-Driven Services Listings

The most important thing you can communicate to potential customers is the results you'll bring them through your services. The example of Niceboard below is a great example of this. They clearly walk through the value they bring and how much money customers have made through their platform.

Pro tip: Think of the timeless storytelling wisdom here: show, don't tell. Think about how you can show the value you provide instead of saying what you can do.

Client Testimonials

Having testimonials on your website is a necessity. As Scott Gabdullin, founder of Authority Factors says, "when you help businesses see a real return on investment, they become your best advocates. Happy clients are walking billboards."

Most of the marketing websites that stood out to me had clearly defined and extremely compelling testimonials sections.

Easy-to-Find Contact Forms

Remember that the purpose of your website is to prompt your customer to take action. You should make it as easy as possible for someone to contact your team and find the information you're looking for. I appreciate websites where I don't have to dig to find contact info.

Thought Leadership and Case Studies that Demonstrate Industry Expertise

Again, the core purpose of your agency website is to make the case of why someone should hire you.

Customers want to see results, yes, but they also want to affirm that you're an industry expert. Offering thought leadership through a blog or compelling case studies are a great way to demonstrate your expertise.

Make sure to include these pillars as the foundation of your site - and then get as creative as you'd like in the delivery.

Examples of Websites with Great Digital Marketing

These same principles apply to any website, not just digital marketing agencies. Here are 5 examples of websites that use effective digital marketing tactics to promote their business.

1. Niceboard

Niceboard is a company that helps individuals start job boards and create a new revenue stream. What Niceboard does best, in my opinion, is lead with solutions-oriented messaging around their product.

Hanna, a growth marketer at Niceboard, tells me how the agency designed their website in order to meet the needs of their potential customers. Their website focuses on "the problems we solve rather than focusing on what the product/solution does."

On first impression, you are able to clearly understand their major value proposition and the social proof to back it up. The website is full of visuals that explain the potential for growth using the product and the results of other satisfied customers.

What I like: I love when websites have an interactive feature. Niceboard has a nifty little calculator that helps you estimate what you could earn with the software depending on the number of jobs a month you post plus the cost per job. It's so convincing that it almost makes me want to give it a try.

2. Neil Patel

Neil Patel is a digital marketing expert that focuses on SEO, paid advertising, content marketing and social media marketing. The first thing I noticed about the website was an engaging lead generator that helps customers find more traffic - who doesn't want that?

The website also features a great mix of expert thought leadership as well as all of the core components of a standout marketing website.

What I like: I like the website analysis tool that is offered on the home page. This helps me learn more about my needs before I even contact the agency.

3. Varied Lands

Varied Lands, a travel guide website, is an excellent example of a simple design that still leaves a lasting impression. Pierce Hogan, the owner, based the marketing strategy around user-centric design and engaging content.

What I noticed immediately is how un-cluttered the site felt. I could immediately browse topics that were interesting to me and the various pages were quick to load as well.

Hogan tells me that these are all intentional choices. "We aimed to highlight our stunning travel photography to inspire visitors. The aesthetic appeal draws users in, while the intuitive layout keeps them engaged," he said.

What I like: If you're wanting to build a narrative- and content-driven website, Varied Lands offers a good example to follow. By prioritizing simplicity, elegance, and UI, your high-quality content will stand out on its own.

4. Traffic Think Tank

Leigh McKenzie, community advocate at Traffic Think Tank, explains how intentionality and community are prioritized in their website marketing:

"Our site is entirely designed for people who take SEO seriously and want to be surrounded by others doing the same, nothing less."

McKenzie also said. "Our site's language is intentionally selective. We know we're going to turn away a decent chunk of leads with how we market ourselves, and that's by design. Our community is for the doers, folks who want real sounding boards, real mentorship, and real, ambitious SEO collaboration."

What I like: Traffic Think Tank has a crystal clear vision of how their target audience is - and who it is not. If you're looking to build a paid membership community, follow their example.

5. Findaband

Findaband, a live entertainment book agency based in New Zealand, is a great example of an entertainment website with great digital marketing. The site perfectly balances functionality and design.

Sam Browne, the founder and creative director, tells me that the design was inspired by the need for simplicity and elegance. The company keeps a focus on user intent, which is to find a band that fits their needs. The main feature of the home page allows you to search via location and by your event type, such as a wedding reception or gala dinner.

What I like: The site prioritizes visual appeal and functionality - it's extremely easy to find the information you're looking for. I also like that the site makes it simple to search through reviews and browse bands by location.
