DCHA FOSTERS COMMUNITY & TOGETHERNESS WITH LATEST BLOCK PARTY

July 30, 2024 5:21 PM

The residents of Hopkins Apartments, Potomac Gardens and Potomac Senior danced to live music, enjoyed treats from food trucks, and hopped in a foam pit during the latest DCHA Rebuilding Our Communities Block Party on Saturday, July 27.

The community celebration is one of five free DCHA neighborhood block parties planned throughout the summer. In addition to the block parties, the Rebuilding Our Communities event series also features property-specific cookouts and other festivities.

Part of a series of community engagement events taking place at DCHA public housing properties this summer, the third block party offeredfamilies and neighbors lots of summer fun like a water slide, moon bounces and arcade games, and the event included giveaways. Residents got the chance to take home free youth sneakers, donated by Operation Warm, and gently used pocketbooks stuffed with new toiletries, which were provided by Advancing Women of WMATA and DCHA staff.

Before the Block Party began, DCHA staff, including police officers from our Office of Public Safety, went door to door at our three properties to deliver groceries, courtesy of STATDC Global Solutions, to every resident. The team distributed more than 350 bags of groceries!

Also on Saturday, nearly 50 service providers tabled under tents to offer resources. They provided insight and resources on education and workforce development programs; job opportunities; and other services available for youth, seniors, and families in the District. The service providers included nonprofits, academic institutions, private employers, and DC government agencies.

Attendees also could grab free food, drinks and dessert treats from The Angry Jerk, ANR Catering, Lattimore's Gourmet Funnel Cakes, Ice Cream Squad and Rolling Snack food trucks.

Stay tuned as DCHA will host two more Rebuilding Our Communities Block Parties this summer at locations throughout the city.

DCHA is grateful for the service providers who helped make the event possible:
