A new boardwalk at Manly Dam is enhancing accessibility and opening doors to adventure.
Manly Warringah War Memorial State Park, also known as Manly Dam, is Sydney's largest freshwater lake and one of the Northern Beaches best kept secrets.
Council has upgraded almost 400 m of the popular walking trail around Manly Dam and built an elevated boardwalk and several viewing platforms to protect flora and fauna, while improving accessibility between popular picnic spots.
The trail is now easier for all people to access, including children, older adults and people using wheelchairs.
The trail has been designed to fit with the terrain and is sensitive to the existing natural environment - ensuring threatened species are protected.
Thank you to everyone who had their say during the consultation for this exciting project.
There was general support from the community, with the majority of respondents supporting a safer pedestrian path separate from the road. There was also strong support for an approach that was sensitive to the existing natural environment and landscape.
The Manly Dam trail upgrade and boardwalk was proudly funded by the NSW Government's NSW Public Spaces Legacy Program and the Metropolitan Greenspace Program 2019-2019 in association with Northern Beaches Council.
