CapitaLand Investment announces key management appointments for private funds

Singapore, 12 September 2024 - CapitaLand Investment Limited (CLI), a global real asset manager, today announced several key executive appointments. The latest appointments are part of an ongoing process to strengthen CLI's leadership team and accelerate the growth of the company's private funds business, particularly in the areas of capital raising, data centre, special opportunities and renewables.

CLI announced that Mr Simon Treacy, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Private Equity Real Estate, will step down from his executive role with effect from 31 October 2024. He will be appointed Senior Advisor to Mr Lee Chee Koon, Group CEO of CLI, and will provide counsel to CLI's private equity team on capital raising and investments effective from 1 November 2024. Since joining CLI in October 2021, Mr Treacy has led the growth of CLI's private equity real estate business and overseen private capital management.

Mr Lee will concurrently assume leadership as CEO of Private Equity Real Assets (PERA) and steer the growth of CLI's private funds business, which will combine its existing Real Estate and Alternative Assets units into a single Real Assets platform. Mr Andrew Lim, Group Chief Operating Officer of CLI, will provide oversight for CLI's private capital markets team, overseeing capital raising and product development.

CLI also announced additions to its Private Funds leadership team.

Mr Simon Treacy, CEO, Private Equity Real Estate, will step down from his executive role with effect from 31 October 2024. He will be appointed Senior Advisor to Mr Lee Chee Koon, Group CEO of CLI, and will provide counsel to CLI's private equity team on capital raising and investments effective from 1 November 2024.

Effective 1 October 2024, Mr Alan Tan will join CLI as Managing Director & Head of Capital Raising, Private Capital Markets, and Managing Director, Special Projects, Private Equity Real Assets. In this newly created role, Mr Tan will lead CLI's global capital raising team and drive new initiatives across the private funds business. Prior to this, Mr Tan served as Head of Strategic Partnerships at CapitaLand Development, where he was responsible for capital raising and leading new business initiatives. Before that, Mr Tan also worked at Morgan Stanley, CreditEase and Temasek Holdings in a variety of real estate fund management, investments and capital raising roles. In year-to-date August 2024[1], CLI has raised S$1.1 billion of capital and made S$1.7 billion in fund investments through its private funds business. It has also built up a network of capital raisers in Singapore, China, India, Australia, South Korea, Japan, Europe, Middle East and the USA.

To further accelerate the growth of its data centre business, CLI has appointed Mr Kenny Khow as Managing Director for Global Data Centre, another newly created role. Mr Khow will join CLI on 1 October 2024 and oversee the development and execution of CLI's global strategy for its data centre business in close collaboration with CLI's country and fund teams. He will be responsible for identifying growth opportunities, optimising performance, implementing industry-leading best practices and cultivating relationships with top-tier customers. Prior to joining CLI, Mr Khow was Chief Commercial Officer for Digital Halo.

CLI has been actively building its data centre business globally, adding 22 data centres to its portfolio since 2021. Today, CLI has 27 data centres with US$4.5 billion assets under management and over 800 megawatts in gross power[2] across eight countries in Asia and Europe.

CLI also announced that Mr Gabriel Fong had earlier joined CLI as Managing Director & Head for Special Opportunities Group. Mr Fong has deep experience in special situations, and private equity real estate investment and fund management. He is responsible for developing and executing CLI's special opportunities fund strategies and is based in Hong Kong. Mr Fong joined CLI from Alpha Nova Capital Management Partner where he was the Chief Investment Officer. Prior to that, he was the Founder and CEO of Vaw Eurasian Capital Investment Management, and Managing Director & Head of Asia Special Investments with Sculptor Capital Management.

CLI had also earlier expanded the role of its Chief Sustainability Officer Mr Vinamra Srivastava and appointed him as Chief Sustainability and Sustainable Investments Officer to build up CLI's private equity renewables business. Mr Srivastava has worked in various roles including operations, strategy and consulting with CLI's India Business Parks, Roland Berger Strategy Consultants and Cisco Systems.

In addition, CLI announced that it had appointed Mr Haslam Preeston as Chief People and Culture Officer with effect from 3 June 2024. Mr Preeston is responsible for leading the Group Human Resources and Group Administration functions, driving strategies to enhance overall employee experience and foster a positive company culture. Before joining CLI, Mr Preeston was the People and Culture Director, Southeast Asia, at the DFI Retail Group. Prior to that, he worked at the Jardine Group for two decades in a variety of senior roles.

    Alan will be responsible for leading CLI's global capital raising team and driving new initiatives across the private equity business. Prior to this, he served as Head of Strategic Partnerships at CapitaLand Development, where he was responsible for capital raising and leading new business initiatives. Before that, Alan was Vice President for Special Projects supporting the Group CEO of CLI, and worked at Morgan Stanley, CreditEase and Temasek Holdings in a variety of real estate fund management, investments, and capital raising roles.

    Alan holds a Master of Business Administration from INSEAD Business School and a Bachelor of Accountancy (Double major in Banking & Finance) from Nanyang Technological University.

    Effective 1 October 2024, Kenny Khow will be appointed Managing Director, Global Data Centre at CapitaLand Investment (CLI). He will oversee the development and execution of CLI's global strategy for its data centre business in close collaboration with CLI's country and fund teams.

    In his role, Kenny will be responsible for identifying growth opportunities for CLI's data centre business, optimising performance, implementing industry-leading best practices, and cultivating relationships with top-tier customers. Kenny has over 30 years of experience in the technology industry. Prior to CLI, Kenny held several leadership roles in companies such as Digital Halo, ESR Singapore and Keppel Data Centres.

    Kenny holds a Bachelor's degree in Computing Science and Information Systems from the National University of Singapore.

    Gabriel has over 30 years of experience in special situations and private equity real estate investment and fund management. Prior to CLI, he was the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Vaw Eurasian Capital Investment Management, where he started a private equity fund targeting new economy real estate sectors. Prior to that, Gabriel was the Managing Director & Head of Asia Special Investments with Sculptor Capital Management.

    Gabriel holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Economics from Cambridge University.

    Vinamra Srivastava is Chief Sustainability & Sustainable Investments Officer at CapitaLand Investment (CLI). He is responsible for formulating and integrating the Group's environmental, social and governance (ESG) strategy, policies and best practices into its business and operations, fostering a culture of sustainability, and helping to deliver long-term economic value to stakeholders. He is also responsible for leading CLI's sustainable real assets investments including renewable energy and climate-tech venture capital.

    Prior to this role, Vinamra served as CEO, India Business Parks at CLI. Before that, he headed the Corporate Strategy & Development function in Ascendas-Singbridge. Before joining CapitaLand in 2015, Vinamra was a management consultant at Roland Berger Strategy Consultants and Cisco Systems.

    Vinamra holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science from University of Pune, and a Master of Business Administration from Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad in India.

    Haslam Preeston is Chief People and Culture Officer at CapitaLand Investment (CLI), responsible for leading the Group HR and Group Administration functions, aligning CLI's strategic people capabilities with CLI's purpose, vision and culture.

    Before joining CLI, Haslam was the People and Culture Director, Southeast Asia, at DFI Retail Group, part of the Jardine Group. Prior to that, Haslam had a two-decade career at Jardines in senior management roles in China, Indonesia and Singapore.

    Haslam holds a Bachelor of Arts in War Studies from King's College, University of London, and a Master of Arts in Chinese Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London.
