HCU Cyber Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Programs Receive ABET Accreditation

Houston, Texas - Houston Christian University's Bachelor's degree programs in Cyber Engineering and Electrical Engineering have been accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET and its Bachelor's in Computer Science has been accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET. ABET is the global accreditor of college and university programs in applied and natural science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology.

ABET accreditation assures that programs meet standards to produce graduates ready to enter critical technical fields that are leading the way in innovation and emerging technologies and anticipating the welfare and safety needs of the public.

"Receiving ABET accreditation is a major milestone for our computer science, electrical engineering and cyber engineering degree programs. It is a testimony to the hard work of our advisory board, faculty, and the leadership of the College of Science and Engineering.

"We are particularly proud of the high level of instruction and support that our students in these programs receive. They will be for many years to come outstanding contributors with excellence and integrity to the economy as well as the workforce of Houston and the world beyond," said HCU President Robert Sloan.

Sought worldwide, ABET's voluntary peer-review process is highly respected because it adds critical value to academic programs in the technical disciplines, where quality, precision, and safety are of the utmost importance.

Developed by technical professionals from ABET's member societies, ABET criteria focus on what students experience and learn. ABET accreditation reviews look at program curricula, faculty, facilities, and institutional support and are conducted by teams of highly skilled professionals from industry, academia and government, with expertise in the ABET disciplines.

"This accreditation opens up even more employment opportunities for our graduates because of the respect commanded by ABET among engineering and computing professionals. HCU now has the only ABET-accredited Cyber Engineering degree in the state of Texas" said Dr. Katie Evans, Dean of HCU's College of Science and Engineering.

HCU Provost Stanley Napper expressed his gratitude to ABET for its review process.

"Accreditation by the Engineering Accreditation Commission and the Computing Accreditation Commission (both part of ABET) is the "gold" standard for undergraduate degree programs in these fields. Graduate schools and employers often require ABET accreditation for entry into their career paths. We look forward to growing these programs even more to meet the needs of our world for Christian influence in engineering and computing fields," said Dr. Napper.

ABET is a nonprofit, non-governmental organization with ISO 9001:2015 certification. It currently accredits 4,564 programs at 895 colleges and universities in 40 countries and areas.
