Camden County Secures $399,649 in Grants for Hazard Mitigation Projects

At its September 3rd meeting, the Camden County Board of Commissioners accepted three grants from the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS) totaling $399,649.40. These funds, part of the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP), will support critical projects aimed at reducing long-term risks posed by natural disasters.

The HMGP provides local governments with post-disaster funding for initiatives that mitigate future threats to life and property. By enabling the implementation of state and local mitigation plans, the program plays a key role in disaster recovery and long-term resilience.

"As a coastal community, Camden County must take proactive measures to reduce potential threats from disasters," said County Administrator Shawn M. Boatright. "The Board of Commissioners has tasked our staff with making the county more resilient, and these grants are an important step toward that goal."

The grants will fund three key projects:

  • $245,011.50 for a comprehensive stormwater management plan for unincorporated Camden County, to be developed by a consultant.
  • $67,070.00 to elevate a repetitive loss property located in a Special Flood Hazard Area.
  • $87,567.90 for the purchase and installation of a generator at the Camden County Recreation Center (PSA), ensuring the facility can provide essential services during a disaster.

"The HMGP funding is vital to Camden County's preparedness," said Grants Manager Julie Haigler. "These projects will enhance our ability to safeguard the community and strengthen our long-term resilience against future disasters."
