Firelands promotes leaders

Firelands promotes leaders

(Sandusky, Ohio) Four leaders were recently promoted at Firelands Health. The individuals who received a promotion are as follows:

  • Megan Hoffman, nurse manager of the inpatient behavioral health unit
  • Amanda Nemitz, manager of oncology services
  • Shannon Olds, director of dialysis
  • Kristalyn Schoen, manager of patient accounting

Megan Hoffman

Megan has worked on the inpatient behavioral health unit for 10 years. She started as a floor nurse, then as a charge nurse before transitioning into the nurse manager role. "I truly love what I do," Megan said. "We have made several positive changes to the unit to ensure our patients have a nurturing environment where they can feel safe and comfortable while they heal. We promote a holistic approach to healing using psychiatrists, nurses, case managers, therapists, recreational therapists and psych techs. They all collaborate with our outpatient team at Firelands Counseling & Recovery Services to provide our patients the care and resources they need to be successful."

In her spare time, Megan enjoys spending time with her husband, three children and their numerous animals. She is enrolled at Bowling Green State University working on her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

Amanda Nemitz

As a Castalia, Ohio, native, Amanda graduated from Firelands School of Nursing in 2009 and earned an associate in arts from Lourdes University in Sylvania, Ohio. She completed her BSN in 2010 from Bowling Green State University and became an oncology certified nurse in 2016.

"My mother spent time as a private home health aide and also took care of my grandmother when she was sick," Amanda said. "She instilled in me the importance of providing the best care possible to those in need. Throughout my life, several of my family members have battled cancer. Witnessing their cancer journey, and the pride my mom instilled in me, set me on a path to become an oncology nurse." Individuals need someone they can trust to help them through their cancer journey. Amanda strives to be someone patients trust and works to assure the cancer center team provides that same level of care.

Amanda enjoys hiking, gardening, live music, archery and fishing with family.

Shannon Olds

Shannon oversees Firelands Regional Medical Center dialysis units, which includes the inpatient unit at Firelands main campus and outpatient clinics in Sandusky and Bellevue. She earned her bachelor of science from Bowling Green State University and her RN from Lorain County Community College. Shannon has spent the majority of her career at Firelands dating back to 1997. She started in the Fremont behavioral health office, then took a brief hiatus to obtain her RN. She returned to Firelands in 2007 in the inpatient acute dialysis unit. In 2015, she became the dialysis nurse manager, until her recent promotion.

"I am motivated by my team and inspired to bring positivity, fun and teamwork to the unit each day," Shannon said. "I work with the most amazing people and am truly grateful to get to work alongside them. I desire to make a positive impact in all the clinics for our patients receiving dialysis services." In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, scrapbooking, traveling and being outdoors.

Kristalyn Schoen

Kristalyn has worked in the patient accounting department for 21 years. She started as a patient accounts biller, then as patient accounts system coordinator. Kristalyn currently holds her Certified Patient Financial Services Specialist certification. "It is exciting to have the opportunity to dig into the processes and workflows with the team. We are going to be transforming these processes to better meet the needs of our patients and the revenue cycle overall," Kristalyn said. "I have already learned so much from the revenue cycle leadership team during my career here at Firelands."

In her spare time, Kristalyn enjoys spending time with her husband, family, and her pup Jordie. Kristalyn also has a passion for baking.
