Valencia Road Improvement Project to Begin

Published on November 04, 2024

On Monday, November 11, 2024, the Valencia Road Improvement Project from Kolb Road to Houghton Road is scheduled to begin. Borderland Construction, under contract with the City of Tucson, will begin this project by clearing and constructing the roadway on the north side of Valencia Road. During this first phase of the project, traffic will remain in the existing configuration. In mid-2025, traffic will shift to the northern side of Valencia Road and crews will begin to construct the south side of the roadway.

Work hours will be from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, with the possibility of occasional night work.

At completion this project will include a widened six-lane roadway with landscaped median islands, drainage improvements, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, lighting, public art and more. This project is expected to be completed in mid-2026.

The Regional Transportation Authority, a political subdivision of the state and independently governed, has invested more than $1.4 billion in transportation projects and services to improve mobility, safety, economic vitality and quality of life in the region. The RTA collects a half-cent excise (sales) tax from its special taxing district within Pima County to fund its 20-year regional transportation plan. The plan and tax were approved by voters in May 2006. The Valencia Road project is part of the RTA plan and is managed by City of Tucson. For more information, visit www.RTAmobility.com.
