In a shocking report, Education and the Workforce Committee Chairwoman Virginia Foxx (R-NC) highlighted the abysmal failures of several so-called elite universities in addressing antisemitism. From hummus boycotts to anti-Israel faculty members derailing disciplinary decisions, the findings have sent shockwaves through the nation and raised serious questions about the operations of and support for these colleges and universities.
Here's what they're saying…
New York Post: A new House probe into campus antisemitism reveals college leadership across the country collectively failed to hold the line on bigotry and refused to contain chaos on their campuses. It's time these administrators are held to account. All students suffered for their failures through the disruptions.
ABC News: A key conclusion from the wide-reaching investigation stated that the alleged chaos - including antisemitic harassment, large-scale disruptions, and pro-Palestinian demonstrations - on college campuses could set a precedent inviting future behaviors and Title VI Civil Rights Act violations.
Fox News: A new GOP-led antisemitism report revealed Harvard University refused to call Hamas' Oct. 7 attack on Israel "violent," and Northwestern University considered taking Sabra hummus off campus.
CNN: A Republican-led investigation into antisemitism on college campuses found that administrators "overwhelmingly failed" to clamp down on students and faculty who engaged in antisemitic behavior following Hamas' attack on Israel last year. The 325-page report released by the US House Education Committee Thursday states college officials made "astounding concessions" to organizers of pro-Palestinian encampments, while withholding support from Jewish students.
Bloomberg: In one prominent section, the investigation showed how Harvard officials such as then-President Claudine Gay, current President Alan Garber and others crafted their responses in ways that committee members viewed as unsupportive of Jewish community members and Israel. The report also included discussions among administrators at other schools roiled by protests, from the University of California at Los Angeles to the University of Pennsylvania.
Jewish Insider: The above examples, culled from the just-released House Committee on Education and the Workforce's more than 100-page report on its year-long probe of antisemitism on U.S. college campuses, paint a vivid portrait of missteps at some of the country's leading universities as antisemitism and anti-Zionism mounted.
The Hill: House Education GOP says schools failed to protect Jewish students after nearly yearlong antisemitism investigation
Washington Post: The report, led by congressional Republicans, was the culmination of a nearly year-long investigation into multiple schools, including Harvard and Columbia universities, by the House Education Committee, an inquiry prompted by heated protests over the Israel-Gaza war on campuses across the country…The campus demonstrations gave rise to complaints at some schools that protesters' calls for intifada, chants decrying Zionists and other actions left some Jewish students frightened, isolated and uncomfortable on campus.
Politico: Their findings largely focused on how several universities investigated set trends for other institutions to follow, especially around how they handled the wave of antiwar encampments. The report painted college leaders' bids to negotiate with the protesters as "astounding concessions."
Washington Examiner: Colleges 'deliberately' withheld support for Jewish students during anti-Israel protests: Report
The report is also garnering praise from advocates across the country.
"…[We] now know that university administrators were not naive or clueless, but made a premeditated decision to offer no support for Jewish students targeted with genocidal hatred. These same university heads routinely rush to back students of any other minority after a perceived 'microaggression.' The bigotry of this double standard is self-evident, and constitutes a tacit endorsement of anti-Jewish hatred on campus." -Southern Regional Vice President Rabbi Moshe B. Parnes, Coalition for Jewish Values
"Today's report from Congress shines a light on many of the issues ADL has been sounding an alarm on for the past year. Administrators have the responsibility to protect their students - yet they too often fail to enforce their own policies and codes of conduct, frequently allowing offenders to face little to no accountability by compromising on disciplinary actions for those who violate policies." -CEO Jonathan Greenblatt, Anti-Defamation League
"At PDE Action, we commend the commitment this committee, from leadership to every staff member, has demonstrated to ensure ALL students are able to attend classes and campus activities without feeling ostracized, or worse, fearing for their own safety. This report lays out the critical groundwork needed to create the policies and solutions needed to establish long-term changes across colleges and universities…" -Parents Defending Education Action
"The Congressional Education Committee's findings make clear that the problem on college campuses goes beyond a handful of hateful student activists. There is an antisemitic rot deep in university administrations, and it needs to be cleaned out from top to bottom. These universities are flagrantly violating federal law and must be held accountable. No more empty promises, no more stall tactics, no more bureaucratic stonewalling. Now is the time for Congress and the White House to act." -Executive Director for Public Policy Nathan Diament, Orthodox Union
