Two teenagers implicated in a series of 2023 armed robberies, one of whom was convicted and given probation just two months ago, are back in jail as the result of the investigation into Tuesday's armed robbery of a 17-year-old on Gillespie Drive in South Nashville.
Detective Cole Ranseen was in the area when Tuesday's robbery call was dispatched, with the getaway vehicle described as a silver Toyota Rav4. Detective Ranseen spotted the vehicle and attempted to stop it. The SUV sped away before crashing into a concrete wall on Chambers Drive. The three occupants took off running. Detective Ranseen chased the driver, Hser Thaw, 17, while yelling for him to stop. Thaw eventually gave up near the intersection of Faulkner and Turley Drives. A semi-automatic pistol was on the ground next to him. The robbery victim subsequently confirmed Thaw's involvement during a show-up.
Thaw was charged with a series of crimes in Juvenile Court last year, including aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary, and auto theft. He was transferred to adult court and pleaded guilty on October 24 of this year to one count of robbery. He received a three-year sentence to have been served on supervised probation.
Thaw is now charged with aggravated robbery, evading arrest, and use of a gun in the commission of a dangerous felony. His bond is set at $285,000 bond. A probation violation warrant is also expected to be filed by the state.
A second individual who fled from the SUV, Nathan Naw, 18, was seen by an MNPD helicopter crew running to a home in the 3800 block of Faulkner Drive, where he told the resident that people were after him, and then pushed his way inside. Officers found Naw sitting on a sofa in the home. The resident confirmed Naw was a stranger.
Naw was free on $150,000 bond and was wearing an ankle monitor in relation to pending aggravated robbery and gun charges from 2023. Naw was charged with aggravated criminal trespassing ($4,000 bond) for entering the Faulkner Drive home. Detectives are reviewing his ankle monitor data as he remains under investigation in connection with Tuesday's robbery.
