Allegheny College Launches New Academic Year with Over Ten Percent More New Students

Allegheny College faculty, administrators, and students celebrated the start of the 2024-2025 academic year during a matriculation ceremony that welcomed a larger new student class, with over ten percent growth in new student enrollment and a record percentage of international students.

In addition to President Ron Cole, speakers included First Year Class Dean Aascha Brown-Gregg, Allegheny Student Government President Ella DeRose '27, Honor Committee Chair Nealey Clare Wheat '25, Professor Betsy Getschman and Professor James Niblock, who, along with members of the Allegheny Choir led the singing of the school's alma mater.

First Year Student Dean Aascha Brown-Gregg told students, "Embrace the challenges, take advantage of opportunities, and don't hesitate to reach out if you need guidance or just someone to talk to. Your journey is uniquely yours, and I'm excited to be part of it. Welcome to this incredible adventure, and let's make the most of it together!"

The ceremony culminated a busy week preparing students for the new academic year. Faculty, staff, and student leaders executed a robust orientation dubbed the Weekend of Welcome (WOW), helping new students become integrated and feel supported right from the start.

The college enrolled 352 new students, including 329 first-year and 23 transfer students. Vice President for Enrollment Management, Jennifer Winge, said, "From Ghana to Georgia, New York to Nepal, our new class brings varied life experiences and global perspectives that will enrich our campus community."

Key highlights of the Class of 2028 include:

  • Top States: PA, OH, NY, MD and TX
  • Top Countries: Nepal, Ghana, Germany, Vietnam and Brazil
