City News Blog: Lakeland Cardboard Boat Challenge Takes Place October 12

LAKELAND, FL (September 11, 2024) | The 19th Annual Cardboard Boat Challenge and Lakes Festival will take place on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at the Lake Hollingsworth Boat Ramp located at 920 Lake Hollingsworth Drive. The Lakes Education/Action Drive and the City of Lakeland is hosting the event to raise awareness for area lakes.

The cardboard boat challenge is a great team building and family friendly event. The challenge is to design, construct and race a boat made of cardboard around a marked course on Lake Hollingsworth. There are several ways for boat builders to participate including pre-built, on-site built, corporate, community, family, and youth categories. Showcase your skills by building and racing a cardboard boat on Lake Hollingsworth. And no worries, if you're not boating and floating but sinking instead, the Lakeland Fire Department is on standby for quick rescues! The morning promises to be fun for all. The details, rules, and the registration for the event can be found on the Lakes Education Action Drive webpage - www.lakeseducation.org/events-page. Please contact [email protected] or [email protected] with any questions about the event.
