Get to Know James Obergefell in first 'Face of the Case' program, Sept. 18

MILWAUKEE - James Obergefell, a plaintiff in the landmark Obergefell v. Hodges 2015 U.S. Supreme Court case which ruled that the Constitution guarantees a right to marry for same-sex couples, will be the special guest for the next installment of the "Get to Know" program series of Marquette University Law School's Lubar Center for Public Policy Research and Civic Education, on Wednesday, Sept. 18, at 12:15 p.m. at Eckstein Hall, 1215 W. Michigan St.

This will be the first "Face of the Case" program, a new set of occasional entries in the "Get to Know" series. Supreme Court cases are routinely referred to by name, yet it is easy to forget that the names are those of real people. The "Face of the Case" programs will be an attempt to showcase the people behind the cases. Obergefell, who lives in Ohio, is the co-founder of Equality Vines, a producer, and a published author. This conversation will touch on how Obergefell became a party in the historic case, his commitment to supporting equality organizations, and his dedication to love and dignity.

Through public programming such as the Marquette Law School Poll, "On the Issues" conversations with newsmakers, public lectures by leading scholars, conferences on issues of public significance, and the work of its Lubar Center for Public Policy Research and Civic Education, Marquette Law School seeks to advance civil discourse about law and public policy matters.
