The Tompkins County Department of Probation and Community Justice is announcing the publication of two public data dashboards. Dashboards with information on adult and juvenile supervision programming can be accessed online. The dashboards provide an overview of the programming, case counts, and participant demographic information. Users can filter by program year and other categories reported on the dashboards.

The mission of the Department of Probation and Community Justice is to provide the community with mandated as well as voluntary criminal and family court services in order to reduce reliance on incarceration and the court system by facilitating the rehabilitation of individuals in a manner which promotes personal responsibility, improved family functioning, public safety, and reparation for victims.

Probation and Community Justice staff will host a virtual overview of the dashboard open to the public on October 23 at 12pm (register in advance). The virtual event will provide user training and answer questions, it will be recorded and posted to the Tompkins County YouTube channel for future viewing.

Department Director Daniel Cornell stated, "I invite community members to explore the data that we've published to see the work that our department does and the positive impact we have on the community. We have over 450 open supervision cases and our goal is to achieve positive outcomes for clients as well as the broader community. Thank you to the Probation staff for developing this dashboard and to our officers for all of the hard work that they do to support clients."

Tompkins County Administrator Lisa Holmes stated, "I'm glad to see the increased transparency from Probation and many of our County departments. This information will help the public to better understand how we serve clients and deliver program outcomes. I'm very glad to see demographics of the people we serve through these programs included in the dashboard. Kudos to the Probation Department for their efforts and leadership releasing data to the public." Holmes added, "Our Strategic Operations Plan calls for Tompkins County to reaffirm our commitment to Alternatives to Incarceration by assessing the overall impact of current programs and identifying and filling gaps. This dashboard helps us to accomplish that strategic objective. I look forward to our staff and the public having more data to reference when these programming decisions are made."

The dashboards will replace the department's previous practice of publishing annual reports.
