Officers Recovered Trafficking Amounts of Fentanyl and Cocaine in Mattapan

At about 7:10 PM, on Friday, July 5, 2024, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force arrested Paulo Barbosa, 23, of Brockton, on drug trafficking charges.

Officers were on patrol in the area of Morton Street when they observed a motor vehicle with dark tint on the windows. Officers conducted an inquiry of the vehicle's registration which revealed the vehicle was wanted for an armed robbery in Rhode Island.

Officers observed the vehicle stop in a bus stop in the area of Morton Street and Blue Hill Avenue. Officers activated their cruiser's emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop. Officers made contact with the operator and requested he exit the vehicle.

Officers conducted a pat frisk of the suspect and recovered a large plastic bag containing what they believed to be drugs. The bag contained seven plastic bags of fentanyl, fifty-three plastic bags of crack cocaine, and twenty-two pills of fentanyl. The fentanyl was weighed at approximately 16.6 grams, and the cocaine was approximately 41.5 grams. Officers also recovered $520 in US currency.

Barbosa was placed under arrest and charged with Trafficking of Class A (Fentanyl) and Trafficking of Class B (Cocaine). He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
