Local History Resource Hub Grand Opening Set For August 17

Lincoln City Libraries (LCL) today invited residents to the grand opening of the Local History Resource Hub Saturday, August 17. The free event will be from 11 to 11:45 a.m. on the second floor of the Bennett Martin Public Library, 136 S. 14th St.

"The Local History Resource Hub represents our commitment to preserving and sharing the history of Lincoln and Nebraska with our community," said Ryan Wieber, Lincoln City Libraries Director. "We are thrilled to offer a space where history enthusiasts and researchers alike can access these important resources."

The event will include remarks by Sändra Washington, Lincoln City Council Chair; LeeAnn Sergeant, Lincoln City Libraries Public Services Coordinator; Ed Zimmer, retired historic preservation planner; and Judi Cook, Lincoln-Lancaster County Genealogical Society. Local historian Jim McKee will also present a show-and-tell. Coffee and snacks will be served.

Resources include:

  • Extensive collections of local newspapers
  • Lincoln city directories on microfilm dating to 1867
  • Access to the online archives of the Lincoln Journal Star and Omaha World-Herald
  • Detailed property and land-use records for Nebraska from 1883 to 1962 via Sanborn Maps
  • Lincoln Public Schools yearbooks and other historical items from district archives
  • Genealogical materials through Ancestry Library Edition and MyHeritage
  • Biographical information on prominent figures through the Biography Reference Bank
