2ND ANNUAL PFAS SYMPOSIUM: NAWC’s POWELSON AND NAWC MEMBER COMPANIES LEAD DISCUSSION ON WATER QUALITY

NEW YORK - NAWC President and CEO Robert F. Powelson joined Essential Utilities, Middlesex Water Company and SJW Group at the 2nd Annual PFAS Symposium, hosted by Gabelli Funds at the Harvard Club in New York City. The symposium, held on September 26, convened industry experts to discuss the latest advancements in addressing PFAS contamination in water systems across the country.

During the event, Powelson emphasized the critical role regulated, private water and wastewater companies play in safeguarding public health and ensuring water quality. While these companies do not create or produce PFAS chemicals-nor are they used in the water or wastewater treatment process-NAWC member companies have been proactively working to control these dangerous 'forever chemicals.'

By consistently prioritizing significant investments in their infrastructure, NAWC member companies ensure that the water reaching homes and businesses not only meets but often exceeds all health standards. In fact, NAWC's 15 largest members collectively invest nearly $5.5 billion annually to maintain and upgrade their systems, reflecting their unwavering commitment to providing safe and reliable water.

"NAWC and our member companies are committed to leading the way in addressing PFAS contamination and protecting public health," said Powelson. "Through collaboration, innovation and sustained investment, we are developing strategies to ensure the long-term sustainability of our water systems in the face of these emerging challenges."

The symposium brought together diverse voices from the water industry, regulatory agencies and the investment community, showcasing the latest research and breakthrough technologies designed to mitigate PFAS contamination. NAWC member companies remain at the forefront of the industry, implementing innovative water treatment solutions and advanced infrastructure practices that ensure millions of Americans have access to safe and sustainable water every day.
