SSIP program breaks ground on first infrastructure project

Published on October 15, 2024

The City of Fort Worth Development Services is breaking ground on its first infrastructure construction project.

Why it's important: Led by the newly launched Small-Scale Infrastructure Program (SSIP) team, this event marks the first time in the City's history that Development Services has both designed and constructed services for the community. This new turnkey service aims to optimize the development experience.

This project is taking place in City Council District 5 at the Hughes House Community Center and will include installing five pedestrian lights. It is expected to take a few months to complete. There was a groundbreaking event to celebrate this historic event on Friday, Oct. 11, at 5012 E. Rosedale St.

About the program: The new SSIP Program has the primary objective of designing and constructing developer-led and funded, small-scale infrastructure projects. Currently, the SSIP program can design and construct right-turn lanes, roadway improvements, alleys, street and pedestrian lights, as well as flashing beacons, driveways, sidewalks and other incidental development needs. Future phases will include utilities, such as water and sewer, which are expected to be incorporated into the program within the next year.

How to get involved: The easiest way to apply for the SSIP services is through the online permitting system Accela or in person at the new City Hall, 100 Fort Worth Trail.

Learn more: For additional information on the SSIP program, visit the website or contact program manager Jenna Henderson or senior capital projects officer Victor Tornero Sr.
